Wormhole Radars = Disappointment

A while back, before I met up with my corpmate, my bread and butter was soloing C1 – C3 Wormhole Radar sites. I made a lot of money. A lot. In the 12 months that I ran these sites I can probably count on one hand the number of times I actually needed to kill a sleeper. With a well fit and well tanked cloaky Legion, it was possible to gatecrash the site, hack and loot all the cans and get out before you were drained. I just used to make sure I ran the sites without scramming or major amounts of neuting. Fortunately for me, and unbeknownst to many, wormhole radar sites do not require the guarding sleepers to be killed before you can hack, as is the case with many k-space radar sites.

The only loot worth picking up out of these sites was the infamous Caldari Hybrid Tech Decryptor. All other HTDs were worth squat – 150 – 500k a throw. R.A.M Hybrid Techs were worth around a million, so I’d grab them too and leave the rest. Essentially I’d find a hole, enter it and jump from hole to hole for days on end scanning, hacking, jumping, rinsing and repeating.

Where am I going with this?

Well… last night my corpie and I were out in the bombers looking for some fun in W-Space. After a few hours we gave up hunting as there wasn’t anyone around, however, my scout had picked up on 4 Unsecured Perimeter Comms Relays in a C2 so, we decided to grab the Tengus and make some isk. It’s been around 9 months since I ran one of these, and I’ve never actually killed the sleepers – however, my scout was carrying the codebreaker, so we decided to clear each site.

After around an hour and with all the sites cleared and hacked, we headed back to base to count the spoils. 23 Caldari Hybrid Tech Decryptors and a mountain of other crap. Awesome. At least we made some isk… or so I thought.

I logged on my Jita trade alt to check the prices, assuming they would still be at the dizzy 8-9m Isk highs that they used to be.

I was wrong. 3m each. Like, wtf? When did this happen? And why? Running W-Space radars used to be profitable… when did it stop being so? It seems I’ve had my head in low and null sec for too long and haven’t bee keeping abreast of events! Are you seriously telling me that flailing around in an Incursion is now more profitable than ratting sleeper drones?

If so, it’s a sad day for EVE. Fuck Incursions. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Serpentis Corporation Hydroponics Site – Serpentis 5/10 DED Complex

Hello boys and girls!

I haven’t updated for a while due to being lazy. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

I ran one of these this morning for the first time. Normally I find Outgrowth Drone Hives in Gallente Low Sec, but this morning, at 7am, having had no sleep due to a coughing child and a belligerent wife, I stumbled across it in a 0.4.

It’s fun, I’ll say that. I’d definitely recommend something with a range over 40km though. I think an inexperienced pilot in anything without missiles would struggle with it.

A brief synopsis…

Serpentis Corporation Hydroponics Site

The complex is the DED 5/10 rated Serpentis plex. As such, it’s not ‘difficult’, but it shouldn’t be taken lightly either. There are no nasty surprises (other than the webbing in Room 3) and no extra spawns. Once you enter each room, what you see is what you have to deal with. Sadly, unlike the Guristas Hallucinogen Supply depot 5/10, you DO have to clear the first two rooms to get to the goodies. There’s no tank and run I’m afraid.

I ran the site solo in a pretty standard fit PVE Tengu. Something similar to what many of you would consider to be a normal L4 mission fit.

Highs

6x Heavy Missile Launcher II ( Carried 4000 Scourge Furys and 1000 Scourge Precisions)

Mids

Invulnerability Field II
Pith B-Type Small Shield Booster
Dread Guristas Heat Dissapation Amplifier
Dread Guristas Kinetic Deflection Amplifier
Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier
Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner

Lows

Damage Control II
3 x Ballistic Control II

Subs

Dissolution Sequencer
Accelerated Ejection Bay
Amplification Node
Fuel Catalyst
Augmented Capacitor Resevoir

Rigs

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer
Medium Warhead Calefaction Catalyst
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit

Normally when running lowsec plexes, even in a PVE fit I’d stick at least one Magnetic Scattering Amplifier on, even if it isn’t pertinent to the enemies damage – just in case I get jumped by someone that’s clued up about the chinks in my armor. However, on this occasion and as it was very quiet – I decided to beef up my primaries. Next time I won’t. it tanked more than well enough.

So… I scanned down the plex and, as per usual sat my probing alt 50km off the gate to see if anyone in local had pre-scanned the plex and was planning to ruin my day…

Room 1

Room 1 is pretty easy. In fact in reality the whole plex is. If you’ve run L4 Serpentis missions you’ll know roughly what to expect from the first 2 rooms. A little sensor dampening (actually I experienced none, despite Eve Survival’s assertion to the contrary… but then this is Eve Survival we’re talking about) and not much else.

The initial (and only) spawn appears about 30km from warp in and auto-aggros:

3 Battleships
2 Battlecruisers
7 Cruisers
20 (ish) Frigates

Easy. Dispatch them and move along. The acceleration gate is about 40km from warp in. As mentioned previously you need to pop everything to proceed.

*Pro-tip Time*

When running any lowsec plex, always get as much distance as you can between yourself and the warp in point as is reasonable and practical. Remember that pirates can see wrecks on D-Scan and / or may have previously scanned the plex out. By doing this you are getting yourself out of initial point range of most ships and will give yourself more time to get out if necessary if someone comes in. I have a cloaked alt to watch the plex entrance for me at all times. This means you can fit out for full tank / damage without messing around with cloaks / warp stabs and all that other extreme carebear garbage :)

Room 2

Again – all ships are present – no extra spawns. Main bulk sits at around 35km from warp in. You may get some sensor dampening. I didn’t. They’ll all want a piece of you as soon as you land:

11 Battleships
11 Battlecruisers
11 Cruisers
3 Destroyers
6 Frigates

Same drill – kill everything and proceed. The gate, again, is about 40km from your warp in. orbiting the gate is a good idea :)

Room 3

This is where the fun begins. Take my advice and proceed as follows if you have the range. There will be 3 Stasis Towers at about 35km from warp in (hence my range requirement mentioned initially). Flick your prop on and burn away from them whilst taking them out. The main group of ships is arranged in a semi circle with the Overseer taking up position in the left. Flank the left side of the semi-circle at top speed, take him out and, if you have the tank for it, swoop in and grab the loot. If not you’ll have to spend some time taking out the incoming DPS. There are no elite frigates in here so no more web and no scram to worry about:

7 Battleships
1 Battlecruisers
10 Cruisers
11 Frigates
3 Serpentis Stasis Tower
1 Serpentis Cruise Missile Battery
1 Serpentis Heavy Missile Battery
2 Serpentis Light Missile Battery
9 Tower Sentry Serpentis II
1  Sarpati Family Enforcer (Goodies – Overseer Battlecruiser)

This is blitzable with a good tank. Providing you knock out those towers first! Once they’re done it’s a much easier room to deal with than room 2. You only need to kill the Overseer to get the loot and he’s got about as much tank as a wet newspaper. In total I think the plex took me about 25 minutes to complete.

What do you get out of it?

This 5/10 drops Corelum B-Type loot (if you’re lucky) and 18th Tier Overseer’s effects. My personal drop consisted of a Corpum B-Type Refletive Membrance, 18th Tier Overseer’s Effects and a Vigilant Blueprint. Truth be told if the Vigilant Blueprint hadn’t dropped I’d have been pissed :D It comes to about 400m ISK in total which isn’t bad for 25 mins work. However, it has the potential to drop more.

I hope this write up on the Serpentis Corporation Hydroponics Site 5/10 was helpful. If it wasn’t (or it was) – let me know and I’ll do some more :)

Serpentis Narcotic Warehouse Bugged?

So Incarna 1.1 was released today and to be frank it’s been a breath of fresh air. It’s brought in fast ship switching with no session timer and a lot of my issues with lag seem to have vanished.

I have, however, noticed a bug. I’m not sure if this is Incarna 1.1 related but it does, make for some quick and easy money making :)

We ran a Serpentis Narcotic Warehouse tonight that had no rats in it, save for the second room (Check in Tunnel). “Aha! it had already been ransacked, fool!” I hear you shout. No no… it had not. All structures we still intact and the keys and overseers effects were in place. Thankfully, due to another CCP oversight, the gates require no keys… so we simply zipped straight through to room #4 and relieved the warehouse of it’s Coreli A-Type 1MN afterburner. It took us around 7 minutes to do.

Winbug.

Blueprints, blueprints, blueprints…

It’s been a fairly quiet week and we haven’t had chance to do much at all. We have however been hitting a quiet area of Gallente hi sec and getting some good results. Over the past week we’ve run maybe 10 Serpentis Phi-Outpost 4/10 sites with some good success. Coupled with this, blueprints seem to have been dropping like flies, thanks to a few escalations from other smaller anomalies.

We ran a few refuges to see if we could trigger some escalations and got two within 2 days. The first led us to a Serpentis Narcotics Warehouse in a 0.3. I’ve been reliably informed that these are far more likely to drop Dramiel blueprints than those scanned out in hi sec and the theory seems to be  true. A Jet Set Hooligans escalation and a Guristas Scout Outpost both netted us Dramiel blueprints. Today a Serpentis Phi-Outpost gifted us with a C-Type 10MN Microwarpdrive and a Vigilant Blueprint. We’ve also hit some other sites and picked up numerous plates and hardeners.

So, yet again hi sec has netted us with around 1bn isk in loot for the week and I’m slowly coming around to the fact that hi sec exploration, if practised meticulously can be an excellent money spinner!

This weeks lootage…

Ok, so here’s what we’ve picked up this week simply by running a few hisec plexes and radar sites. Not a bad haul. Hopefully tomorrow we can start getting back into lowsec.

Highlights include:

2x Low-grade Snake Epsilon
1x Corelum C-Type 10MN Microwarpdrive
1x Coreli A-Type Adaptive Nano-Plating
1x Shadow Serpentis Sensor Booster

Plus a plethora of A-Type, C-Type and Shadow Serpentis plates and hardeners.

My Jita alt puts the total haul at approximately 700M. Not bad considering we’ve averaged around 2 hrs play per night.

Serpentis Minor Annex

I’m not going to say that this site is shit… because I’ve only done one.

However, in my EXCEPTIONALLY limited experience… it was. Commanders dropped nothing. No Shadow Serpentis spawn.

Wank.

Yeah yeah… I know… I know! You don’t always get a spawn in these things. However… if you work as hard as we did to get to the end of this thing you’d expect… at very least, a tag. So, put it this way – if you do this site and don’t get a faction spawn, expect to be pissed off.

There is an up-side though. If you’re grinding sec status it’ll certainly give you a boost. It’s also hot on bounties. Around 20M isk iirc.

Serpentis Minor Annex

Warp through the gate into an area with a few frigates & cruisers and 8 battleships. Popping the frigates might earn you an additional spawn of 4 battleships and a few more support vessels thanks to a chance distress call. Once cleared you can head towards the gate which will spawn the Militant Commander and around 6 cruisers. Clear the spawn to access the acceleration gate.

You are greeted in the second room to 2 seperate groups including 8 battleships, around the same number of destroyers and battlecruisers plus a few frigates. Clear this group FIRST then take a shot at the warp gate to trigger the fun.

The Commander now appears along with a small entourage including 22 battleships, 12 cruisers, 16 frigates and around 8 more cruisers and battlecruisers that spawn with the Commander’s group. Fun.

Being in the middle of the plex and this point is a really bad idea. K? This is especially true if the webbing / scrambling Watchmen get ahold of you. You can picture the scene I’m sure. I play EVE in 1080p and the NPCs were off my screen by half a screen height again.

Range here is the key. Before hitting the warp gate, ensure you’re within kiting distance of the centre of the plex and start hitting those frigs before you do anything else. it’s imperative that you keep range and get the DPS down as quickly as possible. Added to this, there’s a fair amount of dampening going on from the Core Admirals too.

Apparently *rolls eyes* there’s a chance of a Brutix spawning as a Shadow Serpentis Squad leader. You may have gathered that we didn’t get it. Killing him can lead to an escalation.

Missile boats are definitely the order of the day. A corpmate and I ran this in about 50 minutes using a Legion and a Tengu.
